Think Local: Shop Local in Austin Texas

At AJID, a number of our projects consist of shopping for furniture for our clients. Here is a list of our favorite local furniture stores we love supporting.

Caffreys Funriture: This showroom features a multi-line collection of hand-crafted American made goods that are made to order and can be custom sized.

Collectic Home:  A lofty, upscale furniture store in Austin, Texas. We ship anywhere. Worldwide resources for the best in home furnishings.

Copenhagen Living: Copenhagen has always been a family affair and our family of stores is now run by original owner Erik Hansen. This store offers modern and contemporary furniture.

Five Elements Furniture: A local, family owned furniture store that specializes in modern, mid-century, and contemporary furniture.

Nest Modern: Like the Modern movement that forms our collections, Nest offers progressive yet iconoclastic designs. Whether you are a Modern aficionado or a neophyte, you will feel at home.

Loft: A contemporary furniture store is located in The Domain—Austin’s upscale shopping district. All of the products carried are created from eco-friendly materials by craftsmen who adhere to the highest principals of social responsibility.

Featured Project: Via Media Master Bathroom

Homeowners are happy to rid themselves these days of large space-hogging super-soaking jet tubs and create large shower areas fit for a party of ten. Why not? Our rule of thumb is that as long as you have a tub in another area of the home, by all means demo that pool-like tub immediately.

In this project we doubled the size of the shower area. What used to be a three foot by three foot enclosed shower is now an open space with an attached drying area. The shower space is wrapped in Silverthorne limestone and the designated drying area floor is a black slab of pebbled quartz. New vanity cabinetry, constructed of natural stained walnut was designed to incorporate his and her storage units.

Doesn’t this space make you want to pour yourself a glass of wine and take a long hot shower at the end of your day? We think so!

Ikat-Love

image

Ikat, a fun fabric with a seriously funny name! Ikat, a dyeing a process in which fabric yarns have been tie-dyed before weaving was first seen in 1927. This technique has not lost it’s appeal and can been seen on the fashion runways and in homes around the world. Although the process of dyeing the yarn has partially been replaced with printed Ikat patterns, it can be large seen on everything from pillows, window treatments and upholstered items. Above are items that show case our love for this beautiful and unique pattern.

Design Tidbits How to dress up your desk space

image

Since moved in to our new office, we’ve been ogling every piece of desk décor under the sun and have come up with a quick hits list of what makes a desk space eye catching and beautiful:
Get eclectic – make your desk chair a contrasting style from your desk i.e. rococo desk with modern Lucite chair…just make sure your chair is comfy too!
Let in light – position your desk by a window for the immediate mood lift that comes from natural lighting
Pop accents – add a splash of a bright contrasting color in your accessories to create visual interest and generate energy in the space
Get it up on the walls – instead of cluttering your desk top work space with mail and sketches, move this onto a pin board
Put the fun in functionality – only keep what you need on your desk top, but get creative with how you store what you need and bring in your personality through fun containers and organizer
